Despite it not being the usual, meaty dish, a cat craves, it is common to see your cat licking or eating grass if they go outside.

Grass is a good source of fibre and is known to support the digestive system. Eating grass can help food and hairballs pass through or come up as it can also cause vomiting. It has also been suggested that grass contains important elements that are needed within a cat’s diet, so it is recommended indoor cats are given a supply of the green stuff too.

Simply planting grass seeds in a small pot at home would be enough and is cheap and easy to maintain. Sometimes, if there is no access to grass cats might start to investigate other plants in the home!

Eating grass is perfectly normal but it’s fair to say it doesn’t come without its risks, most commonly the removal of grass blades from the throat or nostril. It is still believed the benefits of grass in a cats diet does outweigh any risks.
