Yes, you can still insure your cat however it is highly likely that you will not be covered for any treatment for a pre existing condition, or a new condition that is deemed as linked to the pre existing condition.
An example would be if your cat had an injury to their front left paw, the left paw would not be covered under a new insurance policy. All other paws and illnesses would be covered though so it is still a good idea to take out cover as soon as you can.
What if I decide to change my insurance policy each time it comes up for renewal?
Although it’s possible to do this, it isn’t something we would recommend as you could end up with a lot of problems in the future.
For example, if you have claimed for cystitis with your current provider and then decide to change insurance company, your new provider would be within their rights to exclude cystitis or urinary problems from your cover. If your cat would to show signs of this illness again, you would have to fund the cost of treatment yourself.
It’s important to insure your cat with the best cover from the start and stick with it for life to avoid these issues.
