January and February can be quite cold months for all of us. As we can all wrap our warm, it isn’t quite as simple for our feline friends.

We have come up with some great tips for helping your cat keep warm in these approaching cold weeks!

  • Cats are clever creatures and in the winter they burn more calories because it is colder. The reason for this is so they burn off energy and body fat to keep their body temperature high enough.

Instinctively they will then of course eat more to account for any extra weight they are losing!

Although we should be encouraging our cats to carry on their natural behaviours, it is important for us to keep an eye on their weight all year round. We don’t want them to lose lots of weight because it is too cold for them at home but equally we don’t want them to be putting on lots of weight either!

  • A warm bed can make a world of difference to a cat feeling the cold. Make sure they have something well insulated and it is positioned somewhere your cat will feel safe to curl up into it and get themselves cosy!
  • If you are still concerned that even with a nice warm bed and any additional food required your cat is still not getting the warmth they need, you can invest in a heat pad. They’re really compact and usually come with a cover – they’re like a little hot water bottle!

Keep your cat warm and cosy and we can guarantee you will have a happy cat at home!
