Can you imagine eating chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day? It might sound appealing as a one off, but after a few days you would quite quickly begin to feel unwell! It may also cause you long term health problems too, which quite frankly, we could all do without.

So, why would it be any different for our cats? The truth is, it’s not. What we feed our cats can have a positive, lasting, impact and help to keep them happy and healthy for longer.

Just like humans cats have many different dietary needs, from a growing kitten to an 18 year old cat. By giving your cat the best food, you can help to ensure they maintain an ideal weight, have healthy teeth, and help to support changes in your cat’s life.

“What can be so different in each cat food; it looks the same. How do I know which is best?”

The answer is, always take advice from your vet.

Many sachets of cat food look the same when opened, but as you start delving more into the ingredients you start to notice a big difference. A simple comparison between Royal Canin and a main high street brand shows that there is a significant discrepancy in crude fibre, an ingredient that helps your cat’s digestive system, helps keep them fuller and generally more satisfied. Royal Canin has 9.2% crude fibre and our main high street brand had just 0.2%. By having a lower crude fibre value, your cat is likely to be pestering regularly for food and you will end up spending a lot more money on food than you need to!
