The food you feed your cat will have an impact on every stage of their life and the disease we commonly see, many of which are preventable.

Every time you bring your cat to Cat’s Whiskers, we will do a weight check, we will ask about their current diet. We also assess a body condition score (BCS) and a muscle condition score (MCS). By doing this on every visit, we can easily see and act on any changes that may be present.

With so many brands and types of food on the market, how do you choose the right food for your cat? We are happy to give advice on the right food for your cat.

  • Life stage diets are nutritionally balanced for your cat’s age and lifestyle.
  • Kittens require more protein and calories
  • Neutered/indoor cats require fewer calories.
  • Senior cats require a diet to help support ageing.
  • Some diets are used for certain requirements, for example dental or skin conditions and more specifically disease such as kidney obesity or gastrointestinal problems.

Both dry and wet food have pros and cons. Wet food is more expensive and less easy to use but can be beneficial in cats prone to lower urinary tract disease, constipation and that are overweight. Dry food can be used in puzzle feeders more easily and can be useful in cats that require a higher calorie intake. Dry food allows cats to feed in a natural way, little and often.
